TSA AND FAA ISSUE 'IMMEDIATE' PICTURE ID REQUIREMENTS
All pilots must carry photo identification along with their FAA pilot certificate during flight operations. In a Federal Register released October 24, the FAA issued a final rule (Docket No. FAA-2002-11666) http://www.faa.gov/avr/arm/pir01023.htm that changes Federal Aviation Regulation 61.3, Pilot Identification Requirements.

Specific changes are: FAR 61.3(a): Each person must carry a photo identification acceptable to the Administrator when exercising the privileges of a pilot certificate; and FAR 61.3(l): Each person must present such photo identification when requested to do so by the Administrator, an authorized representative of the NTSB or the TSA, or a law enforcement officer.

NEW FBO AT PAGOSA SPRINGS
Wind Dancer Aviation Services, Inc. has taken over FBO operations at Pagosa Springs, Colorado. In addition, the company is in the process of acquiring 35 STC’s from Kelly Aerospace for the Rajay Turbos on Beech, Cessna, Piper, Twin Commander, and other aircraft. They will also be a Master Distributor of Kelley Aerospace parts. Other changes at Pagosa Springs include a $16 million runway improvement project, which will allow for biz jet operations at the airport. For more information, call 970-731-2127.

AIRLINE FLIGHT DECKS ON THE WEB
Take a closer look at the flight decks of the Boeing 777, 767, 747, Airbus A340 and A320 on the Internet. Every panel, control, knob and switch in each of these cockpits is clickable and fully described. This very detailed simulation is a great resource for learning, as well as good fun. LONESTAR FLIGHT MUSEUM ANNOUNCES UPCOMING EVENTS
The Texas Aviation Hall of Fame, home of the Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston, Texas, will be holding its second annual 1940’s hangar dance on Saturday, March 15. The event will feature a dance contest to the sounds of The Ronnie Renfrow Big Band, best military dress and best civilian dress of the 1940’s, and a silent auction.

The 13th annual Spirit of Flight Airshow & Walkabout will be held April 26-27. This exciting two-day airshow features aircraft of the Lone Star Flight Museum, current U.S. military demonstration teams, aerobatics and other warbirds. For more information, call 409-740-7722.

LOST AND FOUND AVIATION SOUNDS WORKING TO PRESERVE PRECIOUS AUDIO RECORDINGS
The aviation project Lost and Found Aviation Sounds (LAFAS) is struggling to preserve audio recordings related to aviation and space flight before it is too late and historically valuable recordings are lost forever. Many museums who have tapes either can't afford to restore them or haven't the time. These tapes are in danger of being lost, and so are the voices and instilled knowledge of the people, pilots, and engineers on them.

The LAFAS team recently worked on rare wire recordings found in a Washington, DC basement; the recordings were interviews with the team that broke the sound barrier in 1947. The tapes had been forgotten until a member of LAFAS found them. What makes these recordings special are that they include not just Chuck Yeager, but other people intimately involved with the X-1 test program. Many of these people have long since passed on, but these tapes allow their voices to describe the events while they are still "raw" in their own minds. Audio extracts are available. EMBRY-RIDDLE ACCEPTS AIRCRAFT FOR THE U.S.AIR FORCE ACADEMY
The initial delivery of six Diamond DA20-C1 Falcon aircraft to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for use at the U.S. Air Force Academy recently took place at the Diamond Aircraft factory in London, Ontario. Utilizing 35 DA20-C1 Falcon aircraft, Embry-Riddle will train as many as 500 Air Force Cadets annually at the Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The DA20-C1 Falcon, named in honor of the U.S. Air Force Academy mascot, is a custom version of Diamond's standard two-seater. EAA’s COUNTDOWN TO KITTY HAWK WRITING CONTEST OPEN TO ALL WRITERS AND JOURNALISTS
The Experimental Aircraft Association, in conjunction with its Countdown to Kitty Hawk Flight centennial activities, invites authors and journalists to enter a writing contest for works commemorating the Wright brothers’ discovery of powered flight nearly 100 years ago, how they achieved it, and why their achievements changed the world.

The contest is open to entries that are published between Dec. 1, 2002 and June 1, 2003. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three works in both the ‘Newspaper/Web’ and ‘Magazine’ categories. Each category will feature a $1,000 first-place prize, with $500 for second place and $250 for third. In addition, the writing selected as the best overall work will receive an additional $1,000 prize. Winners will also receive commemorative Countdown to Kitty Hawk trophies.

Entries may be submitted in original or copied form, but must include the name and date of the publication in which they appeared. AIR BPPUTS ELECTRIC-POWERED AV GAS REFULER IN SERVICE
Air BP Aviation Services is pleased to announce that it has placed the first ever all electric-powered general aviation refueler into active service at Million Air Long Beach (LBG). The vehicle will be used to fuel piston engine aircraft requiring 100LL fuel at the Long Beach location. Previously, electric-powered refueling equipment was limited to hydrants and commercial refueling equipment. The new vehicle, Model RF750M-50, is built on a low profile Isuzu chassis and produces absolutely no emissions. Other major airports, such as San Francisco International (SFO), Los Angeles (LAX), Denver (DEN), along with the California Air Resources Board, all have mandates that will require that all ground service equipment be powered either by electric, propane or CNG by the year 2010. ACI STALL WARNING SYSTEM AT AIRCRAFT SPRUCE & SPECIALTY
Aircraft Spruce has added the ACI Stall Warning System to its ever-expanding list of products for homebuilders. Designed and manufactured in Great Britain, the unit was created as an economical stall warning system for experimental aircraft.
This unique stall warning system is comprised of a wing mounted vane operated sensor that is connected to an audible cockpit alarm.
